These children are my neices and
nephews . The youngest one, in the
foreground, was still in diapers. He is
holding back, content to watch the others
get near the water.
These children are playing on the
beach at Pajaro Dunes (Watsonville,
CA) They seem to be greatly amused
by the antics of a sandcrab ... the
simple pleasures of childhood.
I found a tiny (1" x 2" ) black and white
photo in an old box of family photos of
these two women in their garden during
the Depression. I decided to paint it ,
showing the colors and mood of the
time. Notice their loyal dog on the left
hand side.
On a visit to Venice Beach, California, I
walked behind these girls on the
Promenade. They were soaking up the
sun, shopping, laughing and having a
great time. I tried to capture their mood as
well as the wonderful variations in their
coloring , shape and clothing.

This painting is done in the Classic Style
of the old Masters, with a Grissaille
painting underneath and transparent
glaze. I love the glowing effect this style
creates. My daughter modeled for this
painting of a woman in Renaissance
clothing.
"The Mother" was also done in the same
classic style as "Yasmine".
On a trip to Ireland, I saw these two
women talking in the city center of
Galway. I was struck by the casual,
natural poses these two friends had.
I enjoyed watching these wonderful, energetic
street musicians perform on Grafton Street in
Dublin, Ireland. The man in the middle is playing
a kind of xylophone / keyboard.
